Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Depolarization of a neuron is the reduction in the negative potential towards zero. As the stimulus is withdrawn, the potential returns to the resting state. Stronger stimulus, causing higher depolarization, takes the membrane potential to the threshold level of excitation, producing a major response called action potential. For a neuron, all action potentials produced are equal in amplitude and velocity. The intensity of the stimulus does not affect the strength or speed of the action potential, given by the all-or-none law.
