Sometimes bar graphs will have more than one bar in each category. This is useful when categories can be divided into subcategories. An example of this is shown in the graph below, which was reproduced from the website of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. A study was done on alcohol use among people in the 12-20 age bracket in 2010, with some results summarized by the graph. The SAMHSA website defines alcohol use as follows:
Current (past month) use - At least one drink in the past 30 days.
Binge use - Five or more drinks on the same occasion (i.e., at the same time or within a couple of hours of each other) on at least 1 day in the past 30 days.
Heavy use - Five or more drinks on the same occasion on each of 5 or more days in the past 30 days.
What percentage of boys reporting current alcohol use were in the heavy drinking category? What about girls?
