A neuron is a signaling cell in nervous tissue. Neurons have a cell body and an axon. The cell body contains the nucleus and organelles. Axon is a cytoplasmic extension that transmits electrical signals along its length. Chemical signals are released at the axon terminals. Dendrites are cytoplasmic extensions that are able to receive chemical signals sent by other neurons. Dendrites are present in some neurons. Information flows from sensory neurons to motor neurons through interneurons in vertebrates.
