Answer to Problem 1RQ

The correct option from the given choices is (c) transmission lines are larger than waveguides.

Explanation of Solution

Description:

Generally, transmission lines are used to guide the Electromagnetic (EM) energy from one point to another point that is from generator to load.

Recently, waveguides replaced the transmission lines since waveguides have more advantages than transmission lines.

Transmission line supports only a transverse electromagnetic wave, whereas waveguides can support multiple number of possible filed configurations. At microwave frequencies, the transmission lines become inefficient, which in turn cause dielectric losses and skin effect; waveguides are used to obtain lower signal attenuation and larger bandwidth.

Waveguides are preferred for EM energy transportation for all the conditions given in options except that the transmission lines are larger than waveguides. Therefore, option (c) is correct and options (a), (b) and (d) are incorrect.

Conclusion:

Thus, the correct option from the given choices is (c) transmission lines are larger than waveguides.
