There are different types of mycosis. They are cutaneous, opportunistic, subcutaneous, superficial, or systemic. Superficial mycosis occurs in the hair shaft or skin. Superficial infections include black piedra, white piedra, pityriasis, versicolor, and tinea nigra. This type of mycosis is highly transmitted through contact. Cutaneous mycosis involves stratum corneum, deep layer of the epidermis of the tissue. They may also include nails and hair. A subcutaneous mycosis occurs deep due to a puncture. The different sites of subcutaneous mycosis include respiratory, blood vessel, and gastrointestinal tract. Cutaneous mycoses are classified into dermatophytoses and dermatomycosis based on the specific genera casing the infection. This mycosis involves skin, hair, and nail. In opportunistic mycosis, spores enter the lungs and paranasal site, and cause different fungal infections.
Fungal infection causes mycosis in the host cell and they are treated by empirical or prophylactic antibiotics. Hospitals should maintain a spore free environment. Identification and administration of new antifungal agents helps in preventing severe fungal infections.

- What do you know about subcutaneous mycoses? explain any one fungus with clinical features and special lab findings?arrow_forwardThe following are cultural characteristics of fungus causing subcutaneous mycoses except* majority of fungi causes superficial skin infections it usually occurs in tropical regions classification includes dimorphic fungi the infections are caused by saprophytic fungiarrow_forwardHello, Can you please help me to describe the "Toxoplasmosis". Describe the species, classified as a fungus, algae, protozoan, or helminth. The main characteristics of "Toxoplasmosis", the lifecycle of the "Toxoplasmosis". Thank you in advance!arrow_forward
- Name the three genera containing opportunistic fungal pathogens.arrow_forwardFor fungal organism to be considered a "true" or "primary" pathogen it would need to be able to: Be completely nontreatable with antimicrobial agents Cause illness Invade an grow in a healthy, non-compromised host Be a member of the Candida genusarrow_forwardDefine two fungal pathogens, and also write its morphological characterization.arrow_forward
- Classify the human fungal infectionsarrow_forwardA 38 year-old woman went to a hospital and complained of a non-productive cough and dyspnea, which has progressed over two weeks. Based on physical examination, she was pale, diaphoretic and in acute respiratory distress. According to her, she had a sexual contact with his partner for the past weeks. The physician ordered laboratory tests and results revealed that the CD4 count was significantly low. What fungal complications the patient may develop and why?arrow_forwardANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS REGARDING THE FUNGI/INFECTION. 1. What is Histoplasma capsulatum? Give a description about it. 2. What are the causative agents of Histoplasma capsulatum? 3. What are the antigenic structure of Histoplasma capsulatum? 4. What is the drug of choice for Histoplasma capsulatum?arrow_forward
