Chapter 12, Problem 1P
Explanation of Solution
Operations of drum switch:
The structure and operations of the given drum switch is as follows:
- To operate the contact blocks in the drum, the “pegs” are situated at the particular locations around the drum.
- The contacts which are associated with the “pegs” are closed and the contacts without pegs are opened when the drum gets rotated.
- The logical value “1” or “ON” is used to represent the peg existence and the logical value “0” or “OFF” is used to represent the peg non-existence.

Design a combination circuit that allows to add two digits BCD 8421. The inputs and outputs will be displayed on 7-segment displays, design with a mix of multiplexers, decoders and demultiplexers, additional elements are allowed.
Design a synchronous counter, using JK flip-flops and NOR (OR-INVERTED), for the following
sequence: The value of your counter will be display using 7 segments display; this will require bcd-
7segments display circuit. The circuit will also produce a 1 and light up an led every time an 6 is
encountered.
