A uniform plane wave in air Ex1+=Ex10+cos(1010tβz)V/m incident normally on copper surface z=0.

Concept Used:

First, we find out the intrinsic impedance for the given conductor (copper in our case).

For a good conductor like copper, the intrinsic impedance is,

   ηc=jω μσ

Then, we calculate the reflection coefficient by using the below formula,

   Γ=ηcη0ηc+η0

Calculation:

First, we calculate the intrinsic impedance for copper.

For a good conductor like copper, the intrinsic impedance is

   ηc=jω μσ

   σ is electric permeability

   μ is magnetic permeability

   ηc=jω μσ can also be represented as (1+j)ω μ2σ

For copper σ=5.8×107 and

And μ=(4π×107)

   =(1+j) 10 10 (4π× 10 7 ) 2(5.8×1 0 7 ) =(1+j)(0.0104)

Using η0=376.7288Ω (free space wave impedance)

The reflection coefficient can be calculated as below:

   Γ=ηcη0ηc+η0=0.0104376.7288+j0.01040.0104+376.7288+j0.0104=0.9999+j0.0001

   |Γ|2=0.9999 and so, the transmitted power fraction is 1|Γ|2=10.9999=0.0001=0.01%
