Concept explainers
To compare and contrast features of karyotype and pedigree.
Introduction:
Pedigree: It is a genetic representation of several generations of a family whichshows the inheritance of a trait or disease. There are symbols which represents the gender and affected individuals.
Karyotype: The karyotype is a process, by which the researchers or geneticists takes photograph of the chromosome present in the cells. It helps in determining different types of chromosomal abnormalities.
Explanation of Solution
Karyotype:
A karyotype is organized profile, which gives information about the individuals chromosomes. They are used to study the chromosomal abnormalities in an individual.
Pedigree:
It represents the inheritance pattern of a particular trait in a family and helps in deciding the possible genotype of a person.
Both:
Karyotype and pedigree both can help in identification of the genetic problems that may occur in the individual or may occur in the descendants of that individual.
