To explain: Environment is the main cause of cancer.
Introduction: Cancer is caused due to abnormal cell cycle control system. It is an uncontrolled proliferation of cells that do not stop on depleting growth factors. Cancer cells make own growth factors. Therefore, they do not depend on the supply of external growth factors. Environmental agents can cause mutation in the cell that lead to abnormalities in cell cycle and continuous cell division.
Explanation of Solution
Cancer arises due to multiple reasons. It may be internal or external. Life style behavior, dietary factors, environmental factors, and occupational exposure contribute to the development of cancer. Environmental conditions such as sunlight exposure, radiation, and chemical exposure may cause cancer. International agency for research on cancer (IARC) has classified more than one hundred chemicals, physical agents, biological agents as carcinogen (cancer causing factors). These factors may cause mutation that brings changes in gene expression and thereby, make the cell to lose control on cell cycle. Thus, environmental factors manipulate the cell to transform into cancer cells. Therefore, it can be attributed that environment is the main cause of cancer.
