Concept explainers
A pair of toy cart wheels are rolled obliquely from a smooth surface onto two plots of grass—a rectangular plot and a triangular plot—as shown. The ground is on a slight incline, so that after slowing down in the grass, the wheels will speed up again when emerging onto the smooth surface. Complete the sketches, and show some positions of the wheels inside each plot and on the other side of each plot, thereby indicating the direction of travel.

- a telecommunication's tower can send a signal up to 90 miles from its location. you are currently situated at 85 miles east and 50 miles south from the tower. what is the closest distance you have to travel horizontally to receive signal from the tower?arrow_forwardPhysics Questionarrow_forwardA car is traveling at night along a highway shaped like a parabola with its vertex at the origin. The car starts at a point 100 m west and 100 m north of the origin and travels in an easterly direction. There is a statue located 100 m east and 50 m north of the origin. At what point on the highway will the car’s headlights illuminate the statue?arrow_forward

If an observer's eye is 2.0 meters above the ground, how far (in meters) should he stand from the base in order that the angle subtended by the statue is a maximum? - Question 1a. A soccer goal, found is a city park, is made up of tubing that supports an odd-shaped hanging net behind the goal, but has a rectangular opening infront. The height of the opening is 2.5m and the width is 3.2m. If a uniform E-field, with a magnitude of 0.1N/C, passes through the goal from the front to the back, entering at 90 degrees to the plane of the goal opening, what is the flux through the net? Also, find the flux through the net if the E-fieldenters the goal at 60 degrees angle to the plane of the front goal. In both cases, assume that there no charge found inside the goal itself. When the train and shoppers pass point A, the train appears to the shopper on the up escalator B to move downward at an angle of 22° with the horizontal, and to a shopper on the down escalator C to move upward at an angle of 23° with the horizontal to travel to the left. Knowing that the speed of the escalators is 3 ft/s, determine the direction (in degrees) of the train. Indicate if it is "up to the right", "up to the left", "down to the right", or "down to the left", along with the angle of inclination from the horizontal. 30° D 30°arrow_forward
