Chapter 11, Problem 14TYK
Summary Introduction

The distinguishing features between a geyser and a hot spring and the reason behind the eruption of a geyser.

Introduction:

The water that precipitates from the atmosphere as rain and snow infiltrates the geosphere and becomes groundwater. The water get down into the ground through the soil and through cracks and pores in the rock by the pull of gravity. The groundwater gets heated by the energy created by Earth in the form of hotspots where the rising magma produces a great amount of heat. This results in the formation of hotsprings and geysers, where the temperature of water present is generally higher than normal.
