Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The infrahyoid muscles are the group of quadric-muscles in the lower part of the neck. The four hyoid muscles are: Omohyoid, Sternohyoid, Thyrohyoid and Sternothyroid muscles.

1. 1. Omohyoid is a hyoid depressing muscles. It is present in the front of the neck.
2. 2. Sternohyoid muscle is a thin muscle which attaches hyoid bone to the sternum.
3. 3. Thyrohyoid muscle is a quadrilateral skeletal muscle which is small and elevates larynx.
4. 4. Sternothyroid muscle is a shorter muscle of the neck which depresses larynx.

The suprahyoid muscles are the group of quadric-muscles located above the neck. The four suprahyoid muscles are: digastric, stylohyoid, geniohyoid and mylohyroid muscles.

• The digastric muscle is small in size and seen under the jaw.
• Geniohyoid muscle is narrow in appearance and situated superior to medial mylohyoid
• The mylohyoid muscle is a pair of muscle seen between mandible and hyoid bone
• The stylohyoid muscle is the slender muscle lies between anterior and superior digastric muscle.
