Concept Introduction:

For a given element, the number of protons and electrons is always same. The number of neutrons for different atoms of a given element may or may not be same. When the number of neutrons for different atoms of a given element is different, then that element is known as monotopic.

A nuclide is an atomic species characterized by the specific constitution of its nucleus, i.e., by its number of protons or atomic number, its number of neutrons, and its nuclear energy state. Nuclides of a particular element that differ in number of neutrons and their mass number are called isotopes.
