Foot ulcers are a common problem for people with diabetes. Higher skin temperatures on
the foot indicate an increased risk of ulcers. The article "An Intelligent Insole for Diabetic
Patients with the Loss of Protective Sensation" (Kimberly Anderson, M.S. Thesis, Colorado
School of Mines), reports measurements of temperatures, in °F, of both feet for 181
diabetic patients. The results are presented in the following table.

Construct a scatterplot of the right foot temperature (y) versus the left foot temperature
(x). Verify that a linear model is appropriate.
b.
Compute the least-squares line for predicting the right foot temperature from the left
foot temperature.
If the left foot temperatures of two patients differ by 2 degrees, by how much would

The glycemic index (GI) is a rating system for foods containing carbohydrates. It shows how quickly each food affects your blood sugar (glucose) level when that food is eaten on its own.
A random sample of 33 children were provided with a breakfast of low GI foods on one day and high GI foods on another. The two breakfasts contained the same quantities of carbohydrate, fat and protein. On each day a buffet lunch was provided, and the number of calories eaten at lunchtime were recorded. On the first day the children ate a low GI breakfast and on the second day a high GI breakfast.
Let be the true mean of the differences in calorie intake for a high GI and a low GI breakfast, respectively. The researcher wants to conduct inference on to determine whether the kind of breakfast eaten has an effect on mean calorie intake. The differences are calculated as calorie intake after high-GI breakfast minus calorie intake after low-GI breakfast. The sample mean of the differences of 63.543…

- Question 9?arrow_forwardSleep apnea is a condition in which the sufferers stop breathing momentarily while they are asleep. This condition results in lack of sleep and extreme fatigue during waking hours. A current estimate is that 15 million out of the 312.7million Americans suffer from sleep apnea, or approximately 4.8%. A safety commission is concerned about the percentage of commercial truck drivers who suffer from sleep apnea. They do not have any reason to believe that it would be higher or lower than the population’s percentage. To test the claim that the percentage of commercial truck drivers who suffer from sleep apnea is not 4.8%, a simple random sample of 339 commercial truck drivers is examined by a medical expert, who concludes that 7 suffer from sleep apnea. Does this evidence support the claim that the percentage of commercial truck drivers who suffer from sleep apnea is not 4.8%? Use a 0.05 level of significance.
