Contol of HIV/AIDS. As of 2012. the number of people living worldwide with Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/ AIDS) was estimated at 35 million. with 23 million new infections per year and 1.6 million deaths due to the disease {UNAIDS, 2013). Currently there is no known cure for the disease, and HIV cannot be completely ehminated in an infected individual. Drug combinations can be used to maintain the virus numbers at low levels, which helps prevent AIDS from developing. A common treatment for HIV is the administration of two types of drugs: reverse transcriptase inhibitors (RTIs) and protease inhibitors (PIs). The amount in which each of these drugs is administered is varied according to the amount of HIV viruses in the body (Craig, 2004). Draw a block diagram of a feedback system designed to control the amount of HIV viruses in an infected person. The plant input variables are the amount of RTIs and PIs dispensed. Show blocks representing the controller, the system under control, and the transducers. Label the corresponding variables at the input and output of every block.

- Thermodynamics is the science that studies A)Mechanics of fluids and how forces affect them B)Improvement of manufacturing process from the initial point to the end C)Conversion of energy from one form to another D)The number of animals living in Azerbaijan E)Experimental methods and uncertainty analysis in experimentsarrow_forwardIn an experiment designed to determine the value of a parameter n, the actual value that is determined during the experiment is ln n which is determined to be ln n = –1.17828±0.07023. What is the value of n? Make sure that you quote the answer to the correct number of significant figures.arrow_forwardThe spread of pollutants through the atmosphere is governed partly by the effects of winds but also by the natural tendency of molecules to diffuse. The latter depends on how far a molecule can travel before collid ing with another molecule. Calculate the mean free path of diatomic moleculesin air using σ = 0.43 nm2 at 25 °c and (a) 10 bar. (b) 103 kPa. (c) 1.0 Pa.arrow_forward
- The dependence of thermal conductivity of a material on temperature is given by an empirical equation k = a ebT where a and b are constants, and k is in W/m-K and T is in K. Spot the true statement from the following set. a, a and b have the same dimension as k. b. a has the dimension of k and b is dimensionless. c. a and b are dimensionless. d. a has the dimension of k and b has the dimension of T.arrow_forward3 A farmer has a 10-heactare maize farm. The maize is under “Fall Army Worm” attack. The farmer has to urgently control the attack using a chemical called AGENOX 221. Motorized sprayers with tank capacities of 15 litres each are to be used. The recommended concentration of the chemical is 2 ml/L and each full tank will cover ½ hectare. A 50-man team is engaged to control the attack. Using the above information and the assumptions given below: i. What volume of the chemical is required to cover the entire field to control the “Fall Army Worm” attack? ii. If each man covers an area of 25 m2 from one end of the field to the other, how many trips will each of them make to cover the entire field? Assume ach man moves in a straight line. Assumptions: 1. The 10 ha farm is considered to be a perfect square. 2. There is a 2.5 % loss of chemical due to the transfer to the sprayer tank.arrow_forwardAnswer the following question: 1. - The horizontal force due to water acting on the bolt (Fh): Fh=ρ×A1×V1×V1--V2 Fh=1000×π4×0.0752×1.254×1.254+11.286( Fh)=69.472 This is the only part I did not understand how to get. Can you please explain more? I arrived with this equation, -P1A1 - P2A2 (cancelled since atmos. Pres.) +Fh = rho A1v1 (v2-v1) Why did P1A1 disappear in your solution? How did you come up with (v1 - - v2) ? What is the control volume? Why did you not do a summation of forces is equal to change in momentum but instead go immediately to getting the horizontal force acting on the bolt?arrow_forward11 Sunco Oil has refineries in Los Angeles and Chicago. The Los Angeles refinery can refine up to 2 million barrelsof oil per year, and the Chicago refinery up to 3 million.Once refined, oil is shipped to two distribution points:Houston and New York City. Sunco estimates that eachdistribution point can sell up to 5 million barrels per year.Because of differences in shipping and refining costs, theprofit earned (in dollars) per million barrels of oil shippeddepends on where the oil was refined and on the point ofdistribution (see Table 51). Sunco is considering expandingthe capacity of each refinery. Each million barrels of annualrefining capacity that is added will cost $120,000 for the LosAngeles refinery and $150,000 for the Chicago refinery. Uselinear programming to determine how Sunco can maximizeits profits less expansion costs over a ten-year period.arrow_forward5 example of chemical hazard 5 example of physical hazard 5 example of erginimic hazard 5 example of biological hazardsarrow_forward
