Each scientific field has certain goals, and psychology is no different. Not unlike other sciences, psychology endeavors to describe, explain, predict, and control the processes it investigates. Thus, psychology attempts to investigate “behavior” and mental processes. Behavior is a range of actions and mannerisms undertaken by people, and depending on various factors, it can be deemed either normal or abnormal. In order for behavior to be deemed abnormal, it has to meet certain diagnostic criteria.
