Brexit and EU Student Enrolment in the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is one of the top destinations
for students from across Europe and the world. Not
only does it attract the most talented foreign students,
they also provide the diversity that is highly desirable
for any academic institution. During the academic year
2016-2017, foreign students enrolled in British uni-
versities comprised 19 percent of total enrolment, out
of which European Union (EU) students made up for
around 6 percent.!
During the United Kingdom's membership of the
EU, British universities had been offering EU students
subsidized schooling fees as well as government-backed
loans to cover tuition fees. However, after the Brexit vote
of June 2016, it is unclear how EU students are expected to
respond to the imminent decrease in tuition support in
the United Kingdom. The British Higher Education Policy constant. This may not be very accurate because there are

The results reveal that in the instance of removing tuition CRITICAL THINKING
fee support to undergraduate EU students, the elasticity of de-
mand would be negative. A 1 percent increase in the tuition
fees would reduce the level of enrolment by 0.21 percent,
i.e., the elasticity would be -0.21. In terms of financial revenue,
this is expected to reduce institutional income by an estimated
£24.0 million per annum.?
The study cautions that measuring the elasticity of en-
rolment rests on the assumption that all other factors remain

The citizens argued that this equal protection should be interpreted as indicating that high-crime areas should have more police protection than low-crime areas. Therefore, police patrols and other methods for preventing crime (such as street lighting or cleaning up abandoned areas and buildings) should be used proportionately to crime occurrence. The city has been broken down into 20 geographic areas, each containing 5,000 residences. The police recognize that not all crimes and offenses are reported: people do not want to become involved, consider the offenses too small to report, are too embarrassed to make a police report, or do not take the time, among other reasons. Every month, because of this, the police are contacting by phone a random sample of 1,000 of the 5,000 residences for data on crime. (Respondents are guaranteed anonymity.) Based on historical observations, Gary has gathered the following data, which show the numbers of these coffees sold over six different price values: Price $2.70 $3.50 $2.10 $4.10 $3.10 $4.05 Number Sold 765 515 990 245 320 480 Using simple linear regression and given that the price per cup is $1.85, the forecasted demand for mocha latte coffees will be cups (enter your response rounded to one decimal place).arrow_forward
