How can we execute the Solver and interpret results from the reports provided by the program

Expert Solution
Step 1

Let’s take an example to understand how to execute solver and interpret the results provided by the program.

Larry and Clarke Company, which manufactures cricket bats and balls. Each Cricket Bat gives a profit of $ 3 and each ball gives a profit of $ 5. A cricket bat requires 3 hours of processing at machine A and 2 hours at machine B. A ball requires 1 hour of machine A and 2 hours of machine B. The maximum time available at machine A is 100 hours and machine B is 70 hours. Company wants to find out the number of cricket bats and balls so that profit can be maximized.

The formulated problem in mathematical terms is as follows:

Let X be the number of cricket bats

Let Y be the number of cricket balls

Maximize Z = 3X + 5Y

Subject to constraints:

3X + 2Y ≤ 100

1X + 2Y ≤ 70

X, Y ≥ 0

Step 2

The above problem can be solved using excel solver by putting it into the spreadsheet.

The following steps can be used to formulate the problem.

A. Defining the changing Cells

These changing cells are the decision variables of the problems that are X à Number of cricket balls and Y à Number of cricket balls
