What is sintering process and classification of Ceramics?
NOTE: Part a and Part b are not interlinked, so I answer only part a of the question.
The sintering process is a manufacturing process, which is used to form the solid material without melting the atoms to liquid else by the diffusion process. In the sintering process, atoms of material diffuse across the boundary and form the solid material. The sintering process is achieved by the application of heat and pressure, not above the point of liquefaction.
The sintering process is suitable for high melting point materials like tungsten, molybdenum etc. The sintering process improves, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and reduces the porosity of the material. The sintering process is temperature-dependent, so for effective sintering process temperature control is an important factor.
