Young Canadians are hard to find summer or long-term jobs because of the tough job market. As the Covid 19 pandemic continues, many businesses are still closed. According to Statistics Canada’s May labor survey, there was a 42% decline in employment from May 2019. The threat seems to equally hit every youth but it is actually not the case. Female students are less likely to be employed and it is twice as far from the employment rate of male students. The employment rate of female youth also faced a decline of 4.3% last May. Minority youth also have a far lower employment rate than others who are not. I am not surprised that youth is hard to find a job these days. As there are epidemic prevention measures, some businesses are unable to have the same level of profit as before and they will definitely be more cautious on hiring new staff. What amazed me is that females and minority are having a much lower employment rate than others. It should not happen as they should also have the same rights and opportunities to find suitable jobs.
