Question. During a recent election, a clerk was responsible for the placement of candidate’s names on election ballots for a particular voting precinct. Party A candidates were selected for the first position in 30 of 50 ballots. Because the clerk was supposed to use a method of random selection, Party B claimed that instead of using randomness, the clerk used a method favoring Party A. Use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that the method favored Party A. [Note: Favored means a proportion greater than 50%.]
A. Clearly identify and state the null hypothesis H0 and the alternative hypothesis H1.
B. Determine the critical value(s) and the value of the appropriate test statistic (to nearest 0.001).
C. Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Justify your answer.
D.Using Figure 8-5 on p. 366, clearly state your final conclusion.

- In a large clinical trial, 401,602 children were randomly assigned to two groups. The treatment group consisted of 201,876 children given a vaccine for a certain disease, and 27 of those children developed the disease. The other 199,726 children were given a placebo, and 108 of those children developed the disease. Consider the vaccine treatment group to be the first sample. Identify the values of n₁. P₁. 9₁. 0₂. Suppose that a market research company randomly selected n = 259 adults who used a desktop or laptop outside of the workplace (tablets and smartphones were excluded). The subjects were asked to identify the operating system of the desktop or laptop they used the most. The operating systems were classified as Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. There were no other operating systems reported in the survey. The subjects were administered a test for creative imagery ability (TCIA), and based on the results, were classified as being exceptionally artistic or not. Exceptionally artistic was defined as being above the third quartile (the top 25 percent) of all people who took the TCIA. The table contains the results of the study. Construct a table that describes the sampling distribution of the sample proportion of girls from two births. Does the mean of the sample proportions equal the proportion of girls in two births? Does the result suggest that a sample proportion an unbiased estimator of a population proportion? For the entire population, assume the probability of having a boy is the probability of having a girl is , and this is not affected by how many boys or girls have previously been born. 2 Determine the probabilities of each sample proportion. - Are Republicans more likely than Democrats to display the American flag in front of their residence on the Fourth of July? A simple random sample of 618 Republicans were surveyed and 408 said they display the flag on the Fourth of July. Another simple random sample of 615 Democrats were surveyed and 394 said they display the flag on the Fourth of July. Let p1p1 be the proportion of all Republicans who display the American flag on July 4th and p2p2 be the proportion of all Democrats who display the American flag on July 4th. Thank you. The accompanying table lists the numbers of words spoken in a day by each member of 56 different randomly selected couples. Complete parts (a) and (b) below. A. Use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that among couples, males speak fewer words in a day than females. In this example, μd is the mean value of the differences d for the population of all pairs of data, where each individual difference d is defined as the words spoken by the male minus words spoken by the female. Suppose that we take a random sample of 600 multiple-choice test answers (the correct answers from the instructor's answer sheet) from introductory college courses and obtain the information summarized by the first row of numbers in the table below. These numbers are the observed frequencies for the categories A, B, C, and D for our sample of 600 correct answers. The second row of numbers contains the frequencies expected for a sample of 600 correct answers if a correct answer is equally likely to be A, B, C, or D. The office knows that exactly 10% of all applications were from minority candidates and that exactly 8% of the open positions were filled by members of a minority. For the investigation, the DEI office will take a random sample of 900 applications. Let p be the proportion of minority applicants in the sample. Answer the following. (If necessary, consult a list of formulas.) (a) Find the mean of p. 0 (b) Find the standard deviation of p. 0 (c) Compute an approximation for P(p ≤0.08), which is the probability that there will be fewer minority applicants in the sample than were hired by the bank. The response is qualitative because the responses can be classified based on the characteristic of being satisfied or not. B. The response is quantitative because the number of people satisfied can be counted. C. The response is quantitative because the responses can be classified based on the characteristic of being satisfied or not. D.
