Is the lottery fair? Power ball is a multistate lottery in which players try to guess the numbers that will turn up in a drawing of numbered balls. One of the balls drawn is the "Powerball." Matching the number drawn on the Powerball increases one's winnings. In a 17 month period, the Power ball was drawn from a collection of 35 balls numbered 1 through 35. A total of 141 drawings were made. For the purpose of this exercise, we grouped the numbers in to five categories: 1–7, 8–14, and so on. If the lottery is fair, then the winning number is equally likely to occur in any category. Following are the observed frequencies. Test the hypothesis that each of the categories is equally likely. Use the 0.05 level of significance and the P-value method with the TI-84 Plus calculator.

- Step 1: Calculate the size of the sample space for flipping a coin ten times using the Counting Principle. Into cell B2, type an equal sign and then the calculation for finding this sample size. When you push enter on your key board, the final answer should appear in cell B2. For example, if I wanted to use GoogleSheets to calculate the area of a rectangle that has sides of 3 inches and 5 inches, I'd type =3*5 and the result in the cell would be 15. But when I click on that cell and look in the function bar, I would see how I got that answer. For example, if I wanted to use GoogleSheets to find 4343then I would type =4^3 To calculate, you always need to start with an = Step 2: Repeated permutations Pick an event that interests you based on the experiment of flipping a coin 10 times: i.e. Flip five heads and 5 tails, etc. (Cannot pick all heads or all tails). - the powerball lottery is played twice each week in 31 states, the district of columbia and the virgin islands. To play powerball, a participant must purchase a $2 ticket, selest five numbers from the digits 1 through 59, and then select a powerball number from the digits 1 through 35. To determine the winning numbers for each game, lottery officials draw 5 white balls out of a drum of 59 white balls numbered 1 through 59 and 1 red ball out of a drum of 35 red balls numbered 1 through 35. To win the powerball jackpot, a participant's numbers must match the numbers on the 5 white balls in any order and must also match the number on the red powerball.
