Name the chambers of the heart, and describe their
structures. What is an auricle?
The human circulatory system, also called the cardiovascular system, is responsible for the circulation of blood through the body. The system consists of blood, blood vessels and heart. The blood circulating through the circulatory system is responsible for the transport of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, and removal of carbon dioxide and waste from the cells. The heart is the major muscular organ that is responsible for pumping the blood into the blood vessels of the cardiovascular system.
The blood vessels comprising the circulatory system are of three types: arteries, veins, and capillaries. The arteries are responsible for circulating oxygen rich blood from the heart to the tissues. The veins are responsible for circulating oxygen depleted blood from the tissues back to the heart. The capillaries are vessels with very thin diameter where actual exchange of gas occurs between tissues and is responsible for connection between arteries and veins.
