Question
List what antigens are on the cell surface for each blood type
Expert Solution
arrow_forward
Step 1 Introduction on Antigens on the blood surface:
The red blood cell antigens expressed on the surface of the cell determines the blood group of a respective individual. The two main blood groups are called ABO with blood types A, B, AB and O and Rh is rhesus factor with types Rh-D positive or Rh D negative blood types. They have an exclusive function and that is it made red blood cells more resistant to invasion from parasites, and this is no longer relevant today. The absence or presence of blood antigens becomes important when there is a matter of blood transfusion from donor to recipient. The immune compatibility via blood typing has to be checked before the blood transfusion.
