Question

If these things were gold bars or bearer bonds, no one would even notice.  However, art is an instrumental thread in a larger cultural tapestry, something that illustrates and colors the world that we live in.  This being the case, a question – is it acceptable for artworks to be removed from the public domain because they are used as investments by the wealthy?  Should be public always have access to these items, or, as owned property, should their owners have exclusive say in their fate?  Does the everyday person on the street have an entitlement to art, and, if so, at what point does that prerogative infringe upon the rights of the person who is actively spending money on it, regardless of motivation?
