She argued that she worked twice as hard as anyone else and that she stayed over in the evening to make up the time she lost in the mornings. There was little doubt in Masons mind that Whisler did produce as much or more than anyone else and that she did stay later in the evening to make up the time she lost by being late in the morning. One Thursday morning, however, Paula Whislers tardiness was holding up a job that had to be finished by noon. Regardless of how hard she might work during the morning, it would be difficult to finish the job on time, since the production material had to dry for three hours before it could leave the department. Although some other worker could have performed the operation, George Mason felt that Whisler was most qualified to do it. But should she not come in at all or be quite later, again the entire production schedule would be thrown out of balance. All of this was going through Masons mind when he heard one of the workers say to a co-worker, That gal Whisler is getting preferred treatment. Why should a woman be given any favors like shes better than the rest of us? Sure enough, Paula Whisler arrived 45 minutes late.
