In the game of baseball, the objective of the offense is to score runs. There are several secondary ways to measure the efficiency of offenses in baseball. Batting average (BA) measures what percentage of the time batters reach base via a hit, slugging average (SLG) measures the ability of a team to hit for power, on-base percentage (OBP) measures a teams ability to reach base via hits and walks, and OPS is on-base percentage plus slugging average.
