Question 2
In the following instance describes an experiment involving the effect of precipitation on the photosynthesis of the native, long-lived, perennial, warm-season C4 species Switchgrass.
If you measure leaf photosynthesis at different time, how would temperature influence your leaf photosynthesis measurement? What’s the best time for leaf photosynthesis measurement in a day?
At low temperature the rate of photosynthesis is limited by the enzymes to carry out the process which would be collided with substrate. So more the temperature rises more the photosynthesis would occur.
C4 plants are adapted to higher temperature environment. They survive at higher temperatures almost from 32°C to 55°C.
They use C4 pathway in dark reaction.

- When analyzing the data for the fan treatment, did the rate of transpiration increase by the same amount for all plants? What are three reasons why different species of plants transpire at different rates?arrow_forwardWhat does maximum assimilation (amax) tell us about the plants photosynthetic rate?arrow_forwardWhat special adaptation has evolved in CAM plants such as cacti and stonecrops that allows CO2 fixation and the Calvin cycle to occur in the same cell, but still occur separately? Briefly describe how this separation of events works.arrow_forward
- C4 plants differ from C3 plants because C3 plants while C4 plants O gain CO2 via photorespiration; lose CO2 via photorespiration have mesophyll cells that fix CO2 and contain the Calvin cycle; have mesophyll cells that fix CO2 and bundle sheath cells that contain the Calvin cycle concentrate CO2 near rubisco; cannot concentrate CO2 near rubisco can concentrate the CO2 by regulating the stomata closure; can concentrate CO2 at night produce a four-carbon intermediate after CO2 fixation; produce a three-carbon intermediate after CO2 fixationarrow_forwardWould a red:FR light value of 0.14 1:7 be expected of a plant in shaded light beneath a leaf canopy and if we assume that ratio would we expect that our pfr per total phytochromes would be more than that in direct sunlight?arrow_forwardIn an experiment conduct to know the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis in spinach leaves, with the use of 5 ml of a 0.2% sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and a solution of dilute drop of liquid soap. in relation this experiment, state an hypothesis that predicts the relationship between light intensity and the rate of photosynthesis. Identify independent and dependent variables. What is your control group, and why is this an appropriate control?arrow_forward

Explain how sugar transport in such a plant would be different during summer, when the plant is photosynthesizing and in the spring when new growth is coming uparrow_forward1) Elodea is an aquatic plant often used in aquariums. State your hypothesis as to whether you believe Elodea leaves perform photosynthesis.arrow_forward
- How would you expect the rate of transpiration to be affected by the following and why?: b. The sun rising over a CAM plant.arrow_forwardA botanist brings you a plant that she has collected during her travels and asks you to determine the photosynthetic pathway the plant uses. You grow the plant in a special chamber on a 14:10-hour light/dark cycle and track the fate of radiolabeled CO2 in the plant over 24 hours. You begin monitoring the plant's photosynthetic activity at the beginning of the light portion of the cycle. You find that during the day, the plant's stomata remain closed, and an enzyme with a low affinity for CO2 slowly catalyzes the joining of CO2 and a five-carbon molecule in the plant's mesophyll cells. Once the chamber switches to the night cycle, the plant stomata open, and an enzyme with a high affinity for CO2 slowly catalyzes the joining of CO2 to a three-carbon molecule to produce a four-carbon molecule in the mesophyll cells. What photosynthetic pathway(s) does this plant use? Group of answer choices C4 Photorespiration CAM C3arrow_forwardQuestion 3 Compare plants and fungi with respect to the following characteristics: a) ability to locomote (move) b) cell structure C) energy sourcearrow_forward
