Expert Solution
Step 1

Answer :

Enzymes made by bacteria called restriction enzymes can break DNA molecules at or close to specific base sequences. The restriction enzymes inhibit bacteriophages. They recognise and cleave at the restriction sites of the bacteriophage, eliminating its DNA. Restrictions enzymes recognise short, specific nucleotide sequences in DNA as recognition sequences. The DNA molecule cleaves when a restriction enzyme recognises a DNA sequence by hydrolyzing the bond between nearby nucleotides.
