RF value = (The distance travelled by the compound)/ ( the distance travelled by the solvent front)

TLC plate is made of silica. All compound according to their polarity move differently. The polar compound bind more strongly than less polar compound, that why the non-polar compound move more distance than polar compound. This is the fundamental concept of Rf difference.

To calculate the Rf of a specific spot the method has been shown is step-2.
