INTRODUCTION

The Krebs cycle, also known as the citric acid cycle or tricarboxylic acid cycle, is the metabolic pathway that converts the energy from nutrient molecules into a form that can be used by the cell for further processes. It is an eight-step cycle that begins with the oxidation of Acetyl-CoA, a molecule derived from the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. In each cycle, Acetyl-CoA is converted into two molecules of carbon dioxide, three molecules of the energy-carrying compound NADH, and one molecule of the energy-carrying compound FADH2. ATP, the body's energy currency, is also produced during the cycle. The Krebs cycle is one of the most important metabolic pathways in the body and is essential for the efficient production of energy.
