Expert Solution
Step 1
Cell growth or cell proliferation is a process by which the cells grow in number through multiple cell divisions. Cell growth can also refer to gaining the mass by the cell without dividing during which cell shape and volume increases. Cell growth is regulated in most organisms including humans by the cell cycle. The cell cycle has four distinct phases G1, G2, S, and M phase. G1 and G2 refer to the growth phases while in S phase the genetic material divides or replicates. Finally, the cell divides at the end of M phase.
