A z-score describes the position of a raw score in terms of its distance from the mean, when measured in standard deviation units. Z-scores range from -3 standard deviations and up to +3 standard deviations. If the value lies outside this limit, then the point is said to be an outlier. A T-score is similar to a Z- score. It also represents the number of standard deviation from the mean. The T-score has a greater value and returns results from between 0 to 100 (most scores will fall between 20 and 80).

- Listed below are systolic blood pressure measurements (mm Hg) taken from the right and left arms of the same woman. Assume that the paired sample data is a simple random sample and that the differences have a distribution that is approximately normal. Use a 0.10significance level to test for a difference between the measurements from the two arms. What can be concluded? Right arm 146 137 140 132 132 Left-arm 183 172 179 156 149 In this example, μd is the mean value of the differences d for the population of all pairs of data, where each individual difference d is defined as the measurement from the right arm minus the measurement from the left arm. - In a population of a certain species of newt, the mean length of the newts is μ= 63 inches and the standard deviation is σ= 3.4 inches. You collect a random sample of n=16 newts. The bell curve below represents the distribution of these sample means. The scale on the horizontal axis is the standard error of the sampling distribution. Complete the indicated boxes, correct to two decimal places. mean of distribution= standard error= Note: The left box is 2 standard errors below the mean. The middle box is the mean. The right box is 2 standard errors above the mean.arrow_forwardCompute the range and sample standard deviation for strength of the concrete (in psi). 3920, 4070, 3500, 3100, 2930, 3870, 4070, 4010 The range is S= psi. psi (Round to one decimal place as needed.)arrow_forwardClaim: The standard deviation of pulse rates of adult males is more than 10 bpm.
