Step 1 PTC taste genetics

This is a hereditary feature, according to PTC (phenylthiocarbamide), Also known as phenylthiourea and non-taster status has been connected to several medical and health problems. The capacity to taste PTC was inherited through a single autosomal dominant gene. PTC is a bitter-tasting, non-toxic chemical compound (14), and it belongs to the "thioureas" class of compounds. The chemical group N-C=S in these molecules is responsible for their characteristic bitter taste.
