1. In small groups, read the following scene and answer the question that follows:
In the scene, Ms. Jones (manager), Debbie (employee), and Jack (employee) are
seated in the conference room.
Ms. Jones: I think aiming for a 15 percent increase in accounts is the only way to get
this company to join the race.
Jack: I don't know. I think 15 percent is a bit high.
Ms. Jones: Jack, if we want to be a first-rate company, we will have to set our goals
high. Trust me, it's the only way we're going to move the company ahead.
Jack: I am still not sure.
Ms. Jones: Well, I'm sure this is the only way. So, let's decide to shoot for a 15
percent gain.
Debbie: I've got to agree with Jack. I think if we shoot for 15 percent, we're setting
ourselves up for failure. However, there has to be a way we can gain a smaller
percentage, say 10 percent, and still compete in the market.
Ms. Jones: I don't see a big difference between 10 percent and 15 percent. So let's
stick to 15 percent.
