A protein is a polypeptide chain, which is created when amino acid polymers are joined together. Translation is the process through which a polypeptide chain is synthesised. Post-translational modifications to the polypeptide chain lead to the formation of secondary and tertiary structures. Proteins cannot perform their biological roles without first undergoing a process known as protein folding. Nearly all enzymes exist in the protein form. Catalysts, such as enzymes, expedite chemical processes. By reducing the activation energy, they hasten the process.
