1. Rewrite equation (18-3) of the introduction in net ionic form.
2. Recopy equations (18-1) and (18-2) from the introduction, but reverse equation (18-1) so that solid
sodium hydroxide appears on the products side of the arrow and the dissolved ions appear as
reactants. Now add the two equations, just as you would in algebra when solving two equations in
two unknowns.
3. Show that the result you obtained by combining the reverse of equation (18-1) with (18-2) is identical
to the net ionic equation version of equation (18-3).
4. All three reactions that you will carry out in this experiment will result in temperature increases. Are
the reactions themselves endothermic or exothermie? Explain.
