Martha has been assigned a team of 10 people to help her plan a major customer appreciation
event. They have been working together for over a month now and they just haven’t really come
together as a team. She was sure she started off well. She contacted each individual on the team
and let them know their responsibilities on the project. Each of the members gets the tasks
completed, but don’t seem concerned with the others on the team. If someone needs help, no one
pitches in to assist. If a team member has a problem, no one helps him to solve that problem. Just
yesterday one of the team members had an emergency and asked if someone on the team could
have a call with the sales team so she could leave early. No one offered to help so Martha jumped in to assist. Martha had to do something. This was a bad experience for everyone frankly and some
folks already were talking about getting off the project. Plus she felt the event won’t be as good as
it could if they just came together as a team

- Your colleague Fatima has been staying late every night to finish an important report for your boss. You know that she has missed a lot of time with her family, but she is a hard worker. She is supposed to be working on the report with her colleague Paul. You know that Paul lets Fatima do all the work and he goes home early. At the end of the week, the report is handed in to the boss and the boss is thrilled. The boss gives a big thank you to Paul and Fatima, and offers to take them both out to lunch to celebrate. - You are working on a project at a business communications company, which includes employees who work at the central office and at a satellite office in a different state. The team is working with clients from a health services company on a public relations (PR) campaign. Throughout the campaign, the team will produce text-based documents and visual media for the PR campaign, and then the clients will review, make suggestions for revisions, and add content as needed. Quick turnaround is needed for tasks to be completed by the entire team (employees and clients). For the past six weeks since the project started, the employees and clients have been communicating largely through email with attachments, sending documents and media back and forth for review. However, the clients have been giving mostly short replies to emails, in which requested details are missing from the replies, the communication has been misunderstood by the clients, and/or individual questions are not fully responded…arrow_forwardCompensation and Benefits Administration You just finish analysing information for the current compensation and benefits program information. You find that some changes should be made, as the majority of employees (you have 120 employees) are unhappy with what is been offered. In fact, the plan had not been revised in over fifteen years, making it dated and definetly ready for some changes. One of the major points of contention is the Paid Time Off (PTO) the organizationoffers. Employees feel the current system of sick time and vacation time offers too few options. For example, one employee says, "I often come to work sick, so I can still have my vacation time for my vacation. Another, "I have given nine years to this organization, but I recieve only three days more than someone who has just started." Here is the current PTO offerings. 1 + year 7 days 5 + years 10 days 10 + years 14 days Adapted from: University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing (2016). a. - your supervisor has just informed you that the deadline for completing your team’s goal has been moved up by two weeks. How many people are on your team? What are their roles? What are their skill sets? How can these be rearranged to meet the new requirements? Are there enough human resources to complete the project two weeks earlier? If not, how can you increase the team’s capacity? Are there aspects of the project that can be condensed or skipped? What are the implications of skipping or condensing tasks? - Moving to a foreign country is not easy, no matter how many times you have done it or how receptive you are to new experiences. Successful global organisations can identify the best candidates for global assignments, and one of the ways they do this is through individual assessments prior to assigning people to global facilities. Form groups of 3 to 5 individuals. Your newly formed team, the Global Assignment Task Force, has been given the responsibility for developing a global aptitude assessment form for Zara, the successful European clothing retailer. The company is starting to become well known in North America and Zara’s managers have positioned the company for continued global success. That success is based on a simple principle- in fashion, nothing is as important as time to market. For the holiday card project, Ximena and the team work together to come up with new ideas for cards. Ximena spends most of her time coordinating with the group on what art will work best for each style of card, making sure they reach a consensus about each design. The group spends time in each meeting checking in with Ximena on publication updates.
