George Ward Nichols (1837–1885)
Nichols, George Ward. An American writer on art and music; born in Mt. Desert, ME, June 21, 1837; died in Cincinnati, OH, Sept. 15, 1885. He was on the staff of General Sherman in the Civil War. He was for some years president of the Cincinnati College of Music. Among his works are: ‘The Story of the Great March’ (1865); ‘Sanctuary’ (1866), a story of the Civil War; ‘Art Education Applied to Industry’ (1877); ‘Pottery’ (1878).
