Fanny Murdaugh Downing (1835–1894)

Downing, Fanny Murdaugh. An American poet and novelist; born in Portsmouth, VA, about 1835; died in 1894. Included in her novels are ‘Nameless’ (1865); ‘Perfect through Suffering’; her poems are ‘The Legend of Catawba’ and ‘Dixie’ (1867). Her pen-names were “Viola” and “Frank Dashmore.”
