SUDDEN INFANT DEATH (SIDS) is the term used to describe the sudden and unexpected death of a healthy baby or toddler that is initially unexplained. It is sometime called as 'Cot or Crib death' beacause infants often die in their cot or cribs.
Below is a list of things for parents on the safety precautions which can minimise the risk of SIDS.
DO. :-
-Always place baby on their back to sleep.
-Place baby in the "feet to foot" position with their feet touching the end of the cot, Moses basket, or pram). Reason behind this is that if baby is not sleeping in 'feet to foot' position then baby might roll and cover himself with blanket which can lead to death. This position will prevent baby from rolling under blanket.
-Keep baby’s head uncovered.
Proceeding to the next step, comes side/stomach position. For this position, you will lay the baby on his/her stomach/side on either in your arms, lap, or your shoulder. Make sure that their arms are to their side. Usually doctors will tell you to lay them on their back to reduce the risk of SIDS, but since your newborn wants to feel like they are in the womb again, it is ok to lay them on their side/stomach. Just make sure that you turn them to their back once they fall asleep.
There have been a few toddler's memorials used a Pokestops and the most distraught parents have raised concerns for this insensitive and inappropriate choice. On the contrary, few have expressed that this in a way, immortalizes their personal monument and memories associated with their loved one.
It is every parents’ worst fear to wake up one morning to find that their child has passed away without warning. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), the common name used today is also referred to as Crib Death, which is an unexplained death occurring during sleep of a seemingly healthy baby less than a year old (mayo clinic). Even though there are some ways to prevent SIDS, there is no guarantee that a child is a hundred percent safe. Some ways to prevent SIDS can be done with parental knowledge of how SIDS occurs. Even though the baby has nothing medically wrong, it could be that the parents did something unintentionally by accident or are simply uniformed.
In spite of a major decline in the incidences of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome since the American Academy of Pediatrics published its recommendation in 1992 that infants should be placed on their back for sleeping this decline has stopped and left us at a plateau. Even though this was released many families are still butting babies on their bellies to sleep. Because of that, it has become increasingly important to address the risk that puts infants at greater risk for SIDS. In this paper of the changeable and non-changeable risk factors of SIDS will be addressed. The recommendations described in this paper include placing infants on a back position to sleep, use of a firm sleep surface and the need for routinely scheduled immunization.
Reading the article “When a baby is destined to die” by Linda Dahlstorm. 2)I felt the dejection of those who were told unexpected news that there was something wrong with their pregnancy, but despite how difficult it affects the family I feel glad that our technology is advancing because now families geneticist, doctors and other type of health professional are able to test a person to find out if they are in perfect condition or if something is wrong with their pregnancy. In Mrs. Deiberts situation I can imagine the pain and stress she went through when she found out her baby had Trisomy 18, but finding out about his condition sooner was better than not knowing the baby was death. The Neonate Treatment is an immense nursery help for families who are at home taking care of their baby because in times when they don’t know what to do the nurse can come in and check on them, the baby and give them help if they have questions or support in time of their lost.
( Hayes, Robert & Stowe, 1996). In more studies co-sleeping protect some babies from sudden infant death (SIDS), co-sleeping babies tend to nurse more often, sleep lightly, and have more practice at responding to maternal arousal. Arousal deficiencies have been linked to some sudden infant death and long periods of deep sleep for the infant could complicate the matters more.
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome remains the leading cause of post-neonatal mortality (under the age of one) in developed countries. The causes of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome have been puzzling and research is being conducted to solve this catastrophic problem. Having a child under the age of one makes me very concerned, along with any other parent(s), that the possibility of SIDS could affect any infant at anytime, SIDS does not discriminate. I am seeking to find the possible causes to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome so in the future deaths could be avoided.
The story “ A Victim” plays a major role in the Holocaust and how dangerous it is to live there when you can be killed anytime and anywhere in the camp. In 1938, a Jew murdered the German attaché in Paris which lead the Gestapo to take an anti-Semitic action and the Jewish prisoner was infected in the new hardships camp. Many of the Jews got frostbite and wanted treatment from the clinic but they had to get past the SS man first. I think the main goal of the SS is to kill Jews and not saving them. I know that the SS is more likely to kill the Jews on the spot for who ask to go to the clinic because, in the end, they’re all going to die anyways
States in 1991, in an effort to inform parents that they should place their infant on their back when sleeping. Many parents, mainly among minority families, are still unaware of this prevention step. Other preventive measures include: breast feeding, not smoking during and after pregnancies, and parents should not to sleep with their infants.
Many questions about the causes of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), also known as “crib death,” are still unresolved. The mysterious and elusive nature of SIDS creates problems, doubts, and more questions. This paper will present some of the most commonly asked questions as well as the answers that have been uncovered by scientists after years of research and study.
Once babies are grown in test tubes, there would be no need for parents and therefore vanish the incredible bond between the mother, father, and child. The childhood of a child that was grown in a test tube would be completely unconventional, since that child would not have loving parents to teach them anything. Adults raised this way would grow up to be unusual as a result of not knowing what love is since people first know about love because of the love between them and their parents. The adults grown from test tubes would most likely be independent and isolated from the rest of the world because they would not have created a bond with anyone or even interacted with anyone as a child.
SIDS is not predictable, and neither is it preventable. Consequently, there are no definable symptoms that could indicate a baby is about to die in his sleep. However,
Infant mortality rates for African American women are two times higher than any other race in the United States. It is thought that socioeconomic status and low education among the African American population is the main factor in this issue, but it is not. Studies show that as an African American woman in the U.S., childbearing health is affected due to the unequal treatment in American society.
In 2011 AAP safe sleep recommendations has gone from 11 to 18 since 2005. As more and more newborns pass from SIDS, researchers are able to find more triggers that lead to the problem. All of these recommendations however are not just directed towards the parents but are also directed to the health care providers, media, manufactures, policy makers and researchers. These are then categorized into the strength of the evidence by assigning a level A, B or C; A being the strongest. The first four recommendations on the list are considered to be level A. These four are considered to be one of the most debated safe sleep topics yet. These include back-only sleep, safe crib, alone, and no soft or loose items in crib with the baby. Having the newborn sleep on their back was first published by the AAP back in 1992 and is still a very important step to preventing SIDS today. Even though they say the ideal situation is for the newborn to sleep close to parent’s bed, it is strongly recommended that the baby does not sleep in the same bed. It has been reported that the increase in death rates in 2005 was associated mainly with bed-sharing. The infant should be placed in their crib, by themselves, with absolutely nothing else to prevent chances of death. The four newest
When people hear the word “forensics” it evokes a mindful of graphic, vibrant images that bring about death and crime. It’s a trigger word that reminds people of gore, autopsies, DNA, death investigations, and bullet holes. This word means so much more than just those few examples of what forensics hold. Forensics is such a broad term- it is “scientific tests or techniques used in connection with the detection of a crime”, so with that given definition forensics could mean many different things. You could go from someone who works as the forensic computer technician who can hack into a sexual predator’s hard drive in the matter of seconds to a forensic anthropologist who studies bones in a legal case. All though there
