August 2016: Despite the clusters of tourists peppering the mountaintop, I am able to find a quiet, solitary spot at the top of the mountain. After a seven mile hike up, I am sitting atop Cloud’s Rest, arguably the most beautiful location in all of Yosemite. Breathing in the thin mountain air, I sit and marvel at the view that lies in front of me. From my perch, I have a perfect view of Half Dome and the perfect opportunity to sit and reflect on the beauty of my surroundings. July 2016: Daring to brave the slippery rocks and uneven walkways, I climb my way up to the top of Rainbow Falls. Peeking over the edge, I see what seems like millions of gallons of water rushing over the cliff. Pairing this with my passion for math and science, I plan to pursue a career in environmental engineering and global development. Upon college graduation, I hope to join the Peace Corps, working to safeguard food security, water access, and agricultural sustainability. When I return the United States, I want to continue in this field, making sure clean water is available for everyone in the nation. The water crisis in Flint, MI has given me a clear vision of the work we must still do to guarantee the health and safety of our own. After this, my ultimate dream is to found my own non-profit organization, focused on sustainable agriculture and development abroad. Through a grassroots approach to education, it is my firmest belief that we can empower the people of the less developed world. Rather than sending in teams to make change, I want to teach locals, giving them the tools they need to create an impact within their own communities. Eventually, I foresee myself returning to the United States, entering the field of public policy, working to create and enact legislation to ensure sustainable practices are used all across the
