I love this book so much I love to be in it. I bet it didn’t take too long make. Bravery I think bravery isn’t something you learn it’s something that you are given. NightJohn showed a lot of bravery coming back to the south. It took a lot of other bravery to teach slaves to read, write, or even to know the alphabet. It’s amazing how much it to take talk sometimes. To the master, of course, like it would take me a lot of bravery to talk to the master. I bet it took a lot of bravery to run. I couldn’t run because with my luck I would be caught on the first night. Well because I'm too damn fat to run half the time anyways. That my thoughts on bravery I like to think that I am a pretty brave guy. Leadership There are many leaders in history like are presidents, Hitler which was a good, but a bad leader. Kim Jong-un of north Korea. Leadership has a lot of respect. It also has a lot of …show more content…
I bet somewhere probably going to go back and do to what the master did to them. They would also take him away from his family and brainwash him and many other sorts of things. So anyways I wonder how it felt to be free I bet it’s like turning 16, maybe 18, or even 21. But I bet nothing can ever feel as good as being free. I would love to have that exact same feeling, I bet it feels 10 times better than going to Disneyland for the 1st time in your life. Or getting that star role in that one movie. Anyways that my idea of freedom. In conclusion, I really love this book I love the details the author put into the book. I like that he put so much effort into it. I even like the part when night john gets his toe cut off. It’s a really good book, but I don’t think it’s right for the youth. But I think the movie was better than the book still. I really love it though. I could never survive slavery I would be dead in the first month of being there. Night john was brave, brave, brave man he also was very
Leadership, as you should know is a very important role in society. Without it all of society and everyone in it would probably crumble. No more inspirations, abolitionists, presidents, or really anything. There can be good leaders, malicious leaders, greedy leaders, and even inspiring leaders. But the question is; what makes a good leader and who is an excellent role model on this subject?
One good example of courage is in Homer's epic poem, “The Odyssey,” when Odysseus enters the Cyclops’ cave. In the epic poem Odysseus and his men enter the Cyclops cave and the text states “We climbed, then, briskly to the cave. But Cyclops had gone afield..." (Homer 157-158). This example demonstrates that Odysseus enters a Cyclops cave and is not fearful. Odysseus enters the cave because he sees treasure and wants to get it for him and his crew. Odysseus chooses to enter the cave even though he knew the cave was the Cyclops home and this demonstrates courage, and this is why the trait should be encouraged. Another good example of courage that sticks out is Newton Knight, who chooses to help slaves even though he lives in the south during the Civil War. In the Biography.com Editors’s article, “Newton Knight,” Knight chooses to stop fighting for the Confederate Army and goes back to his hometown to help slaves, as the text states “They saw themselves as defending the residents of Jones County from the Confederacy” (Biography.com Editors 1). Therefore, this example demonstrates that Knight chooses to fight against the Confederate Army even though he lives in Mississippi. It takes a lot of courage to go up against the Confederate Army even though he lived in the south and almost everyone was against him. It should
Putting Yourself Before Others It is important to have bravery because without it you won't be able to get anything done if you are scared. It is hard to be brave sometimes because you don't know what the outcome could be. In NightJohn by Gary Paulsen, NightJohn is a free man who escaped slavery, he is devoted to teaching slaves to read and write when they aren't supposed to know how to, this could get them killed. NightJohn shows bravery by sneaking in the quarters at night and teaching them how to write letters and spell. You need to be brave to take risks.
Even after his toes/fingers were chopped off, yet he still continued to teach, and that is bravery. The definition of Bravery is Nightjohn returning to where he was consistently tortured for the sake of teaching other slaves how to read and write, knowing what awaited him were he to get caught teaching. Another example of bravery is Sarny’s desire to learn, despite the consequences. Delie had informed Sarny what would happen if Clel had discovered that she had been learning to read and write, but Sarny still continued doing so. This showcases the true meaning of
The first characteristic of a great leader is being loved by their people. By way of example Jane Simmons wrote “ an aggressive military leader, he was feared but also admired by people in other land.” Sulieman scared the people that he needed to scare but he was admired by the people he helped. Also in Amit carters queen Elizabeth I summary it says “she was thought of as a good and wise ruler who was truly thought of as a good ruler
He shows a lot of bravery throughout and he shows more bravery as the story enfolds. His braveness is showed near the end of the book when he is trying to save Kat. He is being brave at this part because by trying to save his friend he was risking his own life at the same time. When he is saving him, he says: "I jump up eager to help him, I take him up and start off at a run, a slow steady pace, so as not to
To have Bravery is sometimes harder than you may think. And to still have bravery when going through horrible situations to obtain certain things that are important to you is incredible. In “NightJohn” by Gary Paulsen, Nightjohn a runaway slave that was captured main goal is to teach slaves to read and write even through harsh times, and he shows to stay strong through the tough times
Everyone has the potential for courage, however, not everyone takes advantage of it. Imagine the nerd taking advantage of talking to the pretty girl in the lunch-room and compare it to not taking the chance. Similarly, in Harper Lee’s story,”To Kill a Mockingbird”, characters employ their wits in order to overcome adversity. Frankly, when used, courage can help with the impossible.
J.F. Clarke once said, “The bravest of individuals is the one who obeys his or her conscience.” True bravery is defined through siding with one’s self morals and beliefs even against the disapproval and ridicule of others. This quote defines the true definition of bravery in that bravery is embracing and listening to one’s conscience. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee exhibits the true definition of bravery when Atticus took on the trial and when Dolphus Raymond and Boo Radley make sacrifices in their own lives.
This shows Bravery because he is standing alone against everyone. When you are the only one doing something it becomes very hard to keep pushing. Another character who shows tremendous amounts of bravery in a much different way is Abigail Williams. Abigail decided to use her bravery to help herself and get other people hurt. While she is cowardly, that doesn’t take away from the fact that she is brave.
True bravery is when you’re aware that the odds are against you, however, you have the ability to persevere through it. Even though you don’t want to complete the task ahead of you, an inner force brings you the motivation to do it. Sincere courageousness doesn’t always entail violence; in fact, courage comes from the choices made within that affect yourself or those around you. The outcome may not always be to your advantage, but
When you think leader, some think kings like William the Conqueror, others think of Prime Ministers such Winston Churchill, or even the leaders of the civil rights movement Martin Luther King Jr. They were all great men and had their time in the sun as great leaders, and they were some of the greatest leaders of their respective times and generations. There are many characteristics that go into a great leader. Things such as measurable things like education and votes in elections are easy to see and give a good impression. The greatest leader must have some of those measurable in his life time. Along with those easily visible things you need a multitude of other
“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.” Said, Winston Churchill, former prime minister of the UK. Throughout the year we have read and learned about many people that showed courage throughout their life. The characters in the novels The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Pianist, and the Shakespeare play, The Merchant of Venice all show great amounts of courage.
Bravery can be looked at in two ways, mental and physical. Mental bravery is the trait to keep pushing forward, to keep fighting for something greater. It can be very hard to constantly keep conquering the next battle. Everyone growing up American or even immigrating later on in life may not have had to endure the same hardships, but living in the greatest country in the history of the world gives you brash mental high knowing where you are. Bravery when looked at this way shows strength, strength to have a no quit attitude.
Leadership is something that people are born with. It is an inherent charm and it doesn’t hide even if you want to hide it. There is a leader amongst us and he or she is the one that leads other people to great things by inspiring and motivating people to do good deeds. Leadership has been described as “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”. This way a leader can decide what work goes in and goes out. Good leaders in history have left a mark in walks of life. But great leaders, they’re different. Great leaders have the ability to make each and every individual re-think their life decisions and choices by
