a. In this passage, the writer achieves a very effective style and language in order to create a sense of immersion and truly understand their experience. The author is able to produce these effects using two methods that are prominent throughout the story. The methods that the author uses to convey the sense of immersion are imagery and perspective in order to successfully achieve a powerful style and language. As a result of this, the author creates powerful language and style to truly convey their experience. As previously mentioned, the author utilizes perspective in order to create powerful style and language. The writer implements a first person perspective in order to accomplish this. The writer mentions “Throughout the evening people came to warn me about themselves.” Using this first person perspective the author gives the reader insight on his perspective and how he perceives things. This adds upon the language and style as it revolves around this perspective. …show more content…
The writer stated, “Biscuits, slabs of white cheese and boiled sweets had been arrayed on every surface in dizzy tiers like wedding cakes.” As evident from this text, the author is using imagery in order to appeal to the reader’s imagination to better immerse them. This ultimately contributes to the language and style of the text and its immersion factors. In essence, the author is able to accomplish his style and language using two very critical tools used to refine his masterpiece. These tools at his hand are imagery and perspective. The author uses the first person perspective in order to give the readers insight to what is going on inside the head of the author. The writer utilizes imagery in order to feed the reader’s imagination so they can picture the environment. The final outcome is a unique form of both style and language for the reader to indulge
Lohr designs a pleasing effect of graphic images for the reader. “They liquefied ochre gathered from cliffs on the islands’ beaches and painted their faces in traditional white, orange, and yellow patterns passed down from their fathers.” For the “Achuar” article, Wallace also uses detailed images to create an aesthetically pleasing view for the readers. “Their huts are tall impressive structures approximately 25 feet high. The huts have roofs made from palm fronds. The floors are dirt. For the most part the homes are open on three sides so friends can come and go.” (Wallace). Both articles use literary description to enhance the reader’s imagery on the
I analyzed the infographic “20 Scientific Benefits of Meditation,” from the Adrenal Fatigue Solution website and the infographic “Health Care Food Purchasing Power” created by Health Care Without Harm and Kaiser Permanente. Both of these infographics have elements of logos, pathos, and ethos incorporated in them. There are also details including colour and text which contribute to their overall efficacy. Furthermore, research from other sources was used to support and deny the validity of the infographics.
The Australian book council should use this book as an influence on children as it is important students read picture books as it gives a better understanding of the different techniques used in the book. In the picture book, The Hidden Forest By Jeannie Baker, she explores different ideas about friendship as he has a friend named Sophie to help him, and passion to overcome his fear of what is beneath the kelp. The illustration that Jeannie Baker used of the Ben and Sophie shows how Ben is hesitant to really explore the ocean and how beautiful the kelp forest really is. Jeannie Baker explores the theme of friendship as Ben was in trouble and became caught in kelp, he eventually untangles himself and thinks of Sophie to help him untangle his
Often authors whom utilizes significant details in their works or novels have the most effect on readers. In the two novels, “The Chronicles of a Death foretold” and “Perfume”, the authors utterly apply great details throughout their novels to keep their readers interested. By doing that, the authors of these novels used imagery. Imagery (visually descriptive or figurative language, used in literary work) is used by the authors applying every aspect that is relevant to the details stated in their novels. Meaning that, the authors precisely uses imagery to have a better effect in the novel.
In the scholarly article “The Republicans Should Pray for Rain: Weather, Turnout, and Voting in U.S. Presidential Elections,” Brad T. Gomez, Thomas G. Hansford and George A. Krause tackle on an idea that many believed to be a true statement for many decades. However, there was no real evidence supporting the claim, this being that rain helps the Republican Party during election seasons. There were many studies previously done that generated the curiosity of this question posed, like DeNardo and his partners claim in their “conventional turnout effect model,” for example. In this study, political scientists present a question of if bad weather, including rain or snow to be exact, affects the overall voting outcome in a negative way in Presidential
Going back to reading the first thought piece I wrote during this course made me realize how much I have improved as a writer. I now understand the nature of writing, and my own experiences with writing. Writing the Rhetorical Analysis helped me in improving my writing based on my previous writing experiences. I now also know what questions to ask when entering a new rhetorical situation, in order to deal with the situation in the right way. The List of 10 made this easier for me, the first thing I do now before entering a new rhetorical situation is ask myself the ten questions I wrote for The List of 10. This course also made me more of a reflective writer. I am now a more self-aware, thoughtful, and mindful
In South Central, Los Angeles, there is a food epidemic taking place among the population. For miles and miles, the only easily attainable food source is fast food; causing the overconsumption of un-nutritious, greasy, and fattening food. This is the problem brought to the public’s attention by speaker Ron Finley in his Ted Talks speech, “A Guerilla Gardener in South Central L.A.” Finley explains how everywhere he looks in his native South Central, all he sees are fast food chains and Dialysis clinics opened due to the lack of nutritious food. Finley views the lack of a healthy food source as a serious problem, and brings up
Welty describes the first steps of reading as “human, but inward...It is to me the voice of the story or poem itself” (Welty 11). Picking up from my knowledge of personification, I gained a new perspective on how books play an impact on how one thinks when reading a piece, as it describes the voice of the book as a human. Having said, this gave me the idea that books establish a personal connection between itself and the reader. Following through with the next chapter, Welty recognizes the value of the summer trips she experienced with her family. She makes an interesting analogy between her trips and reading by calling them “stories. Not only in form, but in their taking on direction, movement, development, change...each trip made its particular revelation, though I could not have found words for it” (68). Connecting this to the title of chapter two, “Learning to See” when reading requires looking closely at the small details and soaking it in, in a way that one can look back upon it later. Once one starts to carefully listen and look at the fluidity and rich ingredients a book has, he/she can find their own voice, which leads into the next chapter. Reading spurs imagination which then allows one to explore their own inner being. Welty best describes her encounter of this by explaining “my imagination takes its strength and guides its direction from what I see and hear and

The first paragraph in the essay takes a form of a vivid description. It starts with a quotation of a teacher giving instructions to start an exam. A college education is valuable and its quality is of the highest importance to most Americans. In his essay, “On the Uses of a Liberal Education: As Lite Entertainment for Bored College Students,” Mark Edmundson utilizes ethos, pathos, and logos to effectively deliver his argument that the current educational system, especially in college, revolves around consumerism which in turn has negatively impacted students, teachers, and universities in general. However, although Edmundson presents an overall logically sound argument, there are few instances throughout the article that may hinder the reliability of his claims to the audience.
In the start of the semester I struggled with the development and proper protocols that needed to be followed to sharpen my writing skills that would have prepared me to become a better and more established University level writer. One of the main reasons why I believed that I did struggle in the beginning of the semester, was because I did not properly follow the SLO guideline that given to myself and my fellow peers by our instructor. As I was able to look back on my past project and assignments throughout the spring semester in this English course, I was able to see an established pattern where I followed the SLO guideline protocols, which really did help sharpen and improve my skills a college
