World War II: The Old Picture

He had a big, deep voice, and thinning gray hair. His eyes were big and friendly. He was in no way a fancy man. He used to live in Brooklyn, and even among all of the designer outfits, he always preferred a simple t-shirt and sweatpants with a pair of worker’s boots. He lived his life however he wanted, even if it would embarrass those around him. No matter, he was a loving man, and he always had time for his family. He was never too busy with work or his social life to relax with us for a little while. These traits all came together to give him a lively, impish, and extremely loving personality. They made him my Grandpa.

I believe that World War II was a continuation of World War I because of some not resolved issues. Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles by expanding the military and invading Poland. One of the events that led to the beginning of World War 1 was: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism; which stands for MAIN. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia but they then joined up with Russia. After, Germany declared war on Russia which caused the war to expand. World War I ended in 1918 when Germany surrendered. It also had a great impact on European countries after it ended.

World War II happened during the time that women wanted more rights and wanted to be able to work. So when World War II happened, it created new job opportunities and women were able and willing to work. The war was fought between two alliances that was against each other, “the opposing alliances are now referred to as ‘The Axis’ and ‘The Allies’. The Axis group consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Allies group consisted of France, Britain, the U.S., the Soviet Union, and China. World War II was especially heinous because of the genocide of Jewish people perpetrated by the Nazis.” (Diffen LLC, n.d.d). World War II was a unique time in American History. World War II represented the best and the worst that the world has to offer. The atrocities committed by the Axis forces were deplorable actions that would require an astonishing amount of coordination and teamwork on the part of the Allied forces. Hitler, with his insatiable desire to spread his vision of Arian supremacy across the world, resulted in the United States and their European Allies engaging in a War that the fate of the world depended on. As a result of the severity and high stakes nature of World War II the United States would be forced to cooperate with any and all resources available to them, even if it means collaborating with a different enemy, The Mafia.

World War II stands out as one of the grisliest wars in human history. Though it 's the effects that make it a unique war. With over twelve countries involved in the war, it brought billions of people together (World). It generally wasn’t for the best, but there are moments where it brought good. My grandparents were one of these moments.

World War II was a traumatic event that is known to be the darkest times in American and European history. It was estimated between 60 to 80 million people had lost their lives during time of battle. Before the United States was involved in the war, the country entered a state of isolationism. Americans saw the war was Europe’s problem and wished to stay out of it. However, as the situation in Europe became more urgent, this edged the United States closer to entering the war. The breaking point was, of course, Japan’s sudden attack on Pearl Harbor. Tensions between the United States and Japan had increased consistently years before the attack.

World War II started on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. France and Great Britain declared war on Germany September 3rd. After France and Great Britain declared war on Germany they mobilized their armies and stationed their troops. Waiting for Germany to attack, but they never did. This eventually became known as the Phony War. By the end of May in 1940 the Germans had trapped all of the allied forces around a northern French city. Allies went to the beaches at Dunkirk because they were outnumbered, and outgunned. Great Britain set out to rescue the army, by sending about 850 ships across the English channel to Dunkirk. They sent many other things in the rescue effort. After Dunkirk resistance in France started to collapse, and by June 14, the Germans took Paris.

On September 1st, 1939, Nazi forces had begun the Invasion of Poland in an effort to increase living space, or Lebensraum, for the Aryan Germans. Hitler’s decision to do this completely disregarded the defense Britain and France guaranteed to Poland, and when Hitler declared war on Poland, Britain and France declared war on Hitler. This would lead to the official start of World War II. Hitler is commonly recognized as the man who invaded Poland in an attempt to take over the world. However, a deeper understanding of World War II shows that there are also reasons to believe that Hitler was only interested in the annexation of Poland, and was actually interested in avoiding a world war. This created what would become one of the most debated events among historians; Was Adolf Hitler’s intent to ignite a world war upon the Invasion of Poland, or was it simply a military attack campaigned to increase German living space.

As World War II came to an end, the United States began emerging as a modern world power. The road to becoming a new world power was long and plentiful. After numerous years of fighting in World War II, years of backing breaking work and dedication, our nation arose as a world superpower. With this superpower, the U.S. would prove its dedication to its people, its help for other countries, and its demand for peace. Once America gained the status of power, many challenges and opportunities were created and faced. Out of these challenges and opportunities came a time of great fear along with many accomplishments. Throughout the journey of being a modern world power, the country tackled an abundance of both high and low points. To conclude,

Many Americans think of the years after World War II as a golden era a time before modern complexities made life more difficult.

The primary purpose of bases around the world is to have places where there are troops already waiting in case they are needed for quick response or they are in the countries we are allied with in case they need help. They do a bit of both this can also depend on what country they are in so they can do things suited to where they are stationed. Even with changes in technology and war, they are still needed considering our army still depends largely on manpower. I think we should keep them there in case they are ever needed especially at this point in time considering all the high tension surrounding Russia and WWIII.

Not only that but USSR (United Soviet Socialist Republic) would also take over Finland, and Baltic countries such as Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. In the after math of World War 1 Germany was in a demolished state. All of the cities were in ruin and it was in the ashes of the former glory that it had once been in. the German people had to try and rebuild their destroyed country. But this was incredibly hard due to the fact that the treaty of Versailles was squeezing what little amount of revenue they were able to generate in the economy. Germany had to do something, they needed something or someone to bring them back to their former glory and help them become a major power in the world again. Soon they would get just what they needed.
