“Boom...”, the atomic bombs hit the ground. People cried, ran, bellowed for help, but they could not escape from being vaporized by the massive power of this nuclear weapon. Casualties are inevitable in wars, but casualties can be reduced. Throughout the history, one of the most massive destructive actions was when the United States dropped atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.
World War Two started in 1939 and lasted until 1945. It was triggered when Adolf Hitler, the dictator of Germany at that time, took over Poland, a country that was supported by French and British who warned him not to. France and Great Britain then declared war with Germany and its allies on September 3, 1939 (Perry 688). At that time, the

Behind the Iron Curtain, the Russia or the Soviet Union were building nuclear weapons because of seeing how powerful the nuclear bombs could be. The US and Soviet Union both competed with each other in building nuclear bombs. One built the A bomb, the other built H bomb, and they continued to top another bomb with a new bomb. Neither side wanted to come out looking like a loser. Eventually, the US and the Soviet Union emerged as the superpowers of the world, with the nuclear weapons guarded on their sides. The Cold War was starting to peek its head into the war (Bullock).
The world could be gone and the human race would end sooner if nuclear weapons were abused. Everyone was living under the fear that the they could be bombed with nuclear bomb at any second. While in the Caribbean, the problem with the use of nuclear energy was evident. Fidel Castro, the dictator of Cuba during the Cold War period, had befriended Nikita Khrushchev and the US, as a democratic, was scared of the spread of communism. The US invaded the Bay of Pigs in Cuba on April 17. 1961 to try to make a change in the Communist system of Fidel Castro, but it failed (The Cold War Bay of Pigs). At the beginning of 1962, the Soviet Union started to install nuclear missiles in Cuba, but the US was not satisfied with that decision. On October 22,
Its 4:45am and the sound of gunfire fills the air as 1.5 million Germans flood the streets of Poland. Led by Adolf Hitler on September 1st, 1939, this marked the start of World War Two. Hitler claimed the invasion was a defensive strategy, but Britain and France were not convinced. A few days later, the two countries declared war on Germany and started a major conflict. As tensions continued to rise and more countries joined the fight, the United States prepared itself for war.
The Cold War was the result of a clash between communism and capitalism, two opposing world-views. Another cause of the build up to the Cold War was the intransigent attitude of both sides. The Soviet Union was extremely concerned about its security after having been invaded twice in the twentieth century. In 1945 America created and used the atomic bomb against Japan and the USSR was determined to create one of its own. Both the
World War II started September 1, 1939 when Germany declared war, then invaded Poland. Two days later, Britain and France declared war on Germany. The Nazi's had alliances with other countries; these countries were know as the Axis. Countries that fought against the Nazi regime were known as the Allies. In May of 1940,
World War 2 was when Hitler wanted to attack the United States. The war started September 1, 1939 - September 2, 1945. (1) The war was located in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean. Adolf hitler was one of the most hated people back then. He would treat his prisoners horrible. After the war the United States and Russia became glad gal superpowers.
This strategic perspective defined the logical outcome of a nuclear war between two major powers, which would result in the destruction of both sides of the conflict. Therefore, the U.S. and the Soviets would lose in the case of a nuclear war, which laid the foundation for the Cold War and the political conflicts that followed. This aspect of a ”cold war” defines the ideological expansion of communism and capitalist ideology, which would now compete for world domination. By not being able to actually initiate a “hot war” between the two superpowers, it became apparent that clandestine spy networks and the movement of nuclear arsenals would set the stage for the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
World War II started when Hitler backed by the German army invaded Poland on September first, 1939. In the wake of World War I the Treaty of Versaille created Poland, some citizens were very upset about the way the treaty worked out. Adolf Hitler opposed this treaty and when he became Chancellor of Germany
World War 2 began on the third of September 1939 and ended second of September 1945. It may seem short in hindsight, but it was a brutal six years. The war began after Germany invaded Poland. The tension had been building up for some time, with Germany breaking the treaty of Versailles by moving troops into the Rhineland demilitarized zone and invading Czechoslovakia. So by the time Germany invaded Poland, the other countries were fed up and the war officially began. The allies (Britain, Canada and the USA) were ready to dislodge Hitler, the leader of the government party known as the Nazi, from ‘Fortress Europe’.
World War II was started on September 1, 1939. Germany invaded Poland and France and Britain declared war on Germany. This was the start of the World War II and this fight spread all around the world. Japan also join this war and
World War Two started in Europe on September 1st, 1939. It started because the German regime evaded and conquered the country of Poland. Germany invaded Poland for two major reasons the first one was to expand how much land they had and because their leader Adolf Hitler hated Jews. Poland was filled with Jews and their government accepted them completely but the Germans did not. The Germans thought that the Jews were the cause of their recent financial troubles. So they discriminated against the Jews the first thing they would do to discriminate against them was make them where the Star Of David on all clothing. They also gave them a curfew, so they would have been inside by 8 P.M. and could not leave until 7 A.M. This would make it so everyone
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a thirteen day crisis that occurred between the United States and the Soviet Union. This crisis occurred on October 14, 1962 and ended on October 28, 1962. The crisis involved the placement of nuclear missiles in Cuba by the Soviet Union and the caused concern for the United States due to the closeness of Cuba. This placement of nuclear missiles in Cuba was due to the failed Bay of Pigs fiasco and Cuba’s need for protection against the United States invading in the future. The Bay of Pigs was a failed mission of the United States that happened in April of 1961. The United States wanted to overthrow the communist leader Fidel Castro, but was ultimately defeated within just three days. Due to this failure, Cuba contacted the Soviet Union to get them to place nuclear missiles so that Cuba could defend their country from the United States. With this failure under John F. Kennedy’s presidency, he had to figure out a different way of forcing the dictatorship of Fidel Castro without strengthening him even more. Before they could plan another invasion into Cuba, a U-2 plane had flown close range to the Cuban border and had captured photographic evidence of nuclear missile facilities being built. According to Marfleet (2000), “Kennedy was privately belligerent—a condition sparked largely by anger at what he perceived to be Soviet attempts to deceive him” (p 547). While it was a small part of a bigger problem, it was the key defining event of the Cold War
In order to properly put the diplomatic actions leading up to World War 1 in perspective, this essay will examine the diplomatic tendencies after the Napoleonic Era. The period approximately between 1815 and 1900 is pinned as a century of peace. However, this is not the case, and in fact, it could be argued that the diplomacy during this time period was a major cause of World War 1. Although this time period did not contain a massive geographic battle spanning across several continents, it contained many smaller scale wars. These wars were “managed” by the larger powers. Prominent figures during this time period such as Otto von Bismarck and Metternich, never shyed away from war. Instead, their diplomacy was coupled with that of their respected military. Carl von Clausewitz, a Prussian general and military philosopher, famously stated that “war is not merely a political act but a
World War II began when Germany invaded Poland when Hitler tried convincing Britain and France that the invasion was a defensive act by bringing living space for the Germans but Britain and France was not convinced. “Hitler gave orders for the Poland invasion to begin on August 26, but on August 25 he delayed the attack when he learned that Britain had signed a new
White Star Line more like the cruise line that is openly greeting: Disaster either by construction of the glorious beauties or by the inevitability of war as three of the company’s ships did sink around the time of The First World War. In the twentieth century, the means of mass transportation moved out to the ocean. Different stratifications of society were able to travel by the waterways, as in large ships there were the three uniquely designed decks to meet each passengers’ financial expectations and lifestyles. The interior designing of three of The White Star Line ships, The Olympic, The Titanic, and The Britannic were remotely similar as they may have one-upped each other as the previous ship sunk. Harland and Wolff were a
World War I, was the so-called war to end all wars, but it did not solve many of the problems that had caused it. So, of course, some years later started another world war. The second World War was the largest and most violent, brutal, and tragic conflict that happened between 1939 and 1945. The two sides in the war were the Axis, which was Germany, Italy, and Japan against the Allies. Canada was one of the many different countries of allies who were fighting against the Axis. Some of the other allied countries were Britain, France, China, and the United States of America. When the majority of people think of who were the allies in World War II, they think about the United States of America and Britain, but people don’t realize that Canada
The Second World War is one of the most familiar wars to the everyday person because of its massive effect on the global community’s future. It is arguably the first and only total war in the history of the war. Hew Strachan believes that it is because of its totality, which is seen through all of the components and scale of World War II. His fellow historian Robert Messer agrees saying “That first truly global conflict mobilized economies and populations of the world on a scale and degree that, if not total, was unprecedented in history.” They both agree, that World War II is the best example of total war for basically the same reasons, but Strachan will go more in depth. While, Messer dives into the morality of dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I will first review Strachan’s essay and then will explain how Strachan and Messer both agree that the Second World War was total in nature.
