Due to the war, the worker’s wages decreased because of the money needed to make weapons and thrive during the war. As many worker’s understood this, they hoped that after the war was over, they thought that their wages would then increase again since the war is over. After the war, their wages stayed the same and did not increase back. This would have an impact on the United States because the workers probably don’t get a lot of money to start with and when they had their wages decreased they probably didn’t have a lot of money that they need to support for their family (Document 8). Also, the Treaty of Versailles which was signed after World War 1 had been expanded into a more substantial body which is the United Nations. The United Nations was formed from the Treaty of Versailles and it consists of most countries around the world. The most anticipated war in history, World War One, started off with the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Franz Ferdinand. As a result, Austria-Hungary gave the killer’s country, Serbia, an opportunity to take ownership and apologize to A/H’s government. Without a response from Serbia, A/H declares war, launching the July Crisis- one of many of Europe’s fighting frenzies. Countries were declaring war on each other, gathering secret alliances, and building their armies. The Crisis continuously built its longevity until declared as a Great War, a nickname for World War One. Knowing which event pushed the world to arm themselves, historians had asked what the underlying causes for the war were. Causes for the war were alliances, imperialism, nationalism, and most destructive, militarism.
The Great War started in 1914 and finally ended in 1918. The war started because of Archduke Franz Ferdinand being assassinated by a Serbian. This caused conflict in many European countries because he was the emperor of Austria’s nephew. The war was originally fought in Europe and the Middle East but then came over to North America when the U.S. joined the war in 1917. The U.S. government voted that the country should go to war when Germany sunk and destroyed many American ships. America became most angry with the situation when Germany torpedoed Lusitania. When the war ended, nearly 117,000 Americans were dead. Before the war started, the American economy was bad and the unemployment rate was high. Then, Europeans started buying American equipment for war. Also, there were many jobs needed to make new equipment for the U.S. to fight in the war. When the U.S. joined the war, many jobs opened up and the unemployment rate went down by over 7%. This war greatly affected America because it improved the American
The outbreak of World War I brought great shock to Americans, and the end of the war impacted American society. When the Central Powers surrendered, The United States was finally in relief. But compared to other countries that took part in the war, the US was barely affected. The war affected economy the most, it prospered. It also affected countless citizens and their daily lives. Florida was an ideal place for military training because of the open land, and I would constantly see training in the military training camps outside in the fields. World War I brought great changes to the United States that I imagine will affect American citizens for years to come.
World War One started in 1914 and ended in 1918. There were a variety of underlying causes of World War One. Starting with the assassination of Archduke was a cause of the war. The internal negative impacts are as followed: United States soldiers returned home with a grand welcome party however, all else was lacking. America had never experienced a time of post war such as World War I and was ill prepared for the return of its’ soldiers and its’ new claimed victory. “By granting World War II veterans comprehensive education, housing, and unemployment benefits, the government recognized the error of sending World War I veterans home with little more than the clothes on their backs” (Keene, Jennifer D. 2). Greedy business men desired to cripple the union and the gains made during the War. Franz Ferdinand can be said to be the reason that WWI happened. An archduke, he was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire. Ferdinand, with his wife, decided to make an inspection of troops in the capital of Bosnia. While there, a Sebrian terrorist group of seven, The Black Hand, was going to try to assassinate him. The first two assassins were unable to kill him, but the third was able to throw a grenade that landed under the car in which they were traveling in. Although it did not injure him or his wife, Sophie, it did harm some of his attendants. After this point, no one knows for sure what happens. Some say he went
