Auggie Pullman is an incoming 5th grader with a facial deformity and struggles to be courageous, and most kids his age are not very kind to him. His parents want him to start the 5th grade at a public school, after he has been homeschooled for the past 5 years of his life. He is introduced to three other kids in his class. After some ups and down with his friendship with Jack and bullying with Julian, everyone becomes pretty close with Auggie in his new school, and wins the the “Most Courageous Kid” award at his fifth grade graduation. Some important lessons and ideas that readers can take away from this powerful book is that kindness is key, and to always be courageous when times are tough, because good …show more content…
Auggie really learns to stand up for himself and to be confident as the book progresses. Towards the end of the book, Auggie has some self-realization about his life and how to be more brave when it comes to other people bullying him. He says, “It's not that I care that people react to me. Like I've said a gazillion times: I'm used to that by now. I don't let it bother me. It's like when you go outside and it's drizzling a little. You don't put on boots for a drizzle. You don't even open your umbrella. You walk through it and barely notice your hair getting wet” (207). This strong quote shows the theme because Auggie learns that even through the most difficult times, anyone can make it through. Reader should take away from this quote that sometimes, it is best to tough it out and make it through, rather than do nothing about it. Ultimately, having courage is another important theme for the book

When Brian Robeson first crashed into the Canadian wilderness, he had to change his actions and personality for him to be able to survive in the wild, especially when there are 10 moose per square foot in Canada. This expository writing includes personality changes from the three books that Brian is involved in, which are Hatchet, The River, and Brian’s Return.
In the novel Unbroken written by Laura Hillenbrand, the character Louie displays many important character traits. The most important trait displayed in this character is positivity. The author shows the reader these traits in several ways. First, the author shows us by what the character says. Louis said ‘ “ If I have any strength left from the heat, I'll beat Bright and give Lash the scare of his life.’ (25). Second, the author shows us by what the character does. Louie reassured Mac that the squadron would come for them, that they were likely to be found that night, at the latest the next day. Another way the author shows the reader is by revealing what another character says about my character. For instance, Phil said ‘ “ If there was one
Adversity is a difficult or unpleasant situation. The quote “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant” by the Roman poet Horace this quote is to be agreed with. The meaning of that quote is when something difficult occurs in life, it will reveal characteristics you didn’t know about yourself. To start, in Mexican Whiteboy by Matt De La Pena, shows that the main character, Danny, is struggling in life at the beginning of the book.
“More weight” this quote was said by Giles Corey, character from The Crucible. Giles was being pressed to death because he wouldn't tell the court the name of his friend that signed the petition. Giles Corey a 83 year old farmer whose wife was accused of witchcraft. He also got arrested for contempt of court for trying to save his wife. Giles remained mute to confess if he was a witch or not. Giles Corey and I have similar personality traits that being stubborn, hard working, and sarcastic.
The thing is, it is really not that hard to prevent these kinds of things from a growing child, all that needs to be done is to see a person on how they truly are and not how they may look on the outside, or who they are related to. If you don’t watch out for this, you could be the next “Killer Kane” to someone's life without even knowing that you're doing it. Traditionally it is the bully who does this, but after reading this essay you may realize that more often it is some sort of family member or friend who does not know that they are making such an impact. For example, if you have a good friend who turns out to be using you, that may change your trust level forever. So the next time you are about to tell someone that they look ugly, or some other mean life changing comment, think about how much it could affect that person for the rest of their lives. If it was not for Freak, Max would have continued on with his horrible life and continued to believe he was like his father, but not everyone's that lucky to have a friend like Kevin. Some people just continue on with their lives with the problem someone else had caused them, and being prejudice to someone has even more of an
(Wonder). Instead of wanting it back, Auggie replies “ No, that's okay.” (Wonder). This is a significant line because it shows how Auggie has learned to accept the way he looks and he knows others will too. Throughout the novel, as Auggie learns to accept his appearance, he increasingly laughs and jokes around with his friends.
“Bartleby is blind but he sees. The lawyer has eyesight but he is blind. Unlike Bartleby, he does not know where he is. He is in prison without knowing it. He has learned nothing. He has gained no insight into himself or into his society, and he has gained no understanding of Bartleby’s rebellion. He has denied his own capacity to love. What remains is only the sentimentality that emerges in his final words of pity and self-pity. “Ah Bartleby! Ah Humanity!” (Melville, p. 45) (Shulman, p. 22)
In part six of RJ Palacio's realistic fiction novel Wonder, it shows the theme that new things are great so you should take risks and live on the edge because you only live once. One example of the theme is when August is starting to lose his hearing and has to go to a special doctor. August has always hated the doctor's office because it brings back terrible memories like all 27of his face surgeries. He also thinks that by getting hearing aids it gives people another reason to make fun of him. “ Ever since I was little, the doctors told my parents that someday I would need hearing aids.
In the novel “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio, the protagonist, Auggie uses his courage to help him overcome the conflict. In “Wonder” Auggie is born with a disorder making him not look like other kids. He has never gone to school, as he was afraid of getting made fun of, until the book begins. The conflict is that other students judge him, and say rude things about his disorder. Auggie uses his courage to overcome the conflict.

Some may argue that Auggie’s experience had a negative impact because of the bullies, but in the end he had everyone on his side. Plus with the conditions there will always be people who give you those long stares, or those people who do that look then look away
Louie Zamperini had a very tragic and interesting life. He was a runner for the Olympics. He won many wristwatches from his competitions. After reading about Louie Zamperini in Unbroken, I believe that the author, Lauren Hillenbrand, lucidly defined Louie as resourceful and determined.
In the play, “The Crucible”, many people are killed or lie to preserve a good name. They are hung because they tell the truth about not being a witch. Some characters that die because they want to preserve their good name are characters like Giles Corey, or John Proctor. A character that lied because they wanted to preserve their ‘truthful’ name, is Abigail Williams.
