There really isn't a right there answer to this question, it could have been a lot of things, but the most logical answer would be either malicious intent, empowerment, or jealousy.

During the year of 1692, the people of Salem began to hang and accuse so-called “witches,” more than twenty people were killed. In Document B, there is evidence that young women were targeting older women. It shows that young women accused older women, but the reasons why are unclear.

According to Document B, 134 people were being accused of being witches. 110 of those were women. Out of the women 76 were married at the time. There were 34 accusers. Ot of all of them 22 of them were below 20. This could imply that young, impressionable girls were accusing the married women.

We know that a few girls made the first accusations, but why. I will now explain how Salem became one of the most notorious towns in Massachusetts. Ergot poisoning was the cause for the witch trials as it caused the girls to become crazed and delirious.

If an accused was not known to sin, they believed the right side of politics, and they did not own anything of value, they would most likely be found innocent during the investigation for witchcraft.
