Winston Churchill
The world was at war. Germany quickly invaded Poland and France with brute force, appearing to be pushing westward toward Great Britain. Without Winston Churchill, Britain and the rest of the Allied world would have been unprepared for the power of Germany. Through his brilliant mind, military experience, and leadership capabilities, Winston Churchill changed the tide of World War II.
Winston Churchill’s powerful mind began developing at a young age. He enjoyed learning, but only what interested him (Vander Hook 20). According to a teacher at Harrow, he had “a brilliant brain, but he would only work when he chose to, and for the matters he approved of” (Vander Hook 24). He

Being able to study the subjects of tactics, defense, and military administration, Churchill loved his time at Sandhurst (Vander Hook 27). He put effort into every subject and worked hard. By the time he graduated, Churchill was ranked 8th out of the 150 students in his class (Vander Hook 29). Churchill joined the cavalry, and years rushed by as he rose in rank and popularity (Vander Hook 27). In late 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed to end World War I (Vander Hook 54). However, Churchill saw another war on the horizon in Europe (Vander Hook 62). Churchill became worried about Adolf Hitler and warned Parliament (Vander Hook 62-63). No one believed Churchill’s claims until Hitler took control of Czechoslovakia in 1939 (Vander Hook 62-66). Undoubtedly, Winston Churchill’s mind played a major role in the victory of World War II.
Along with Winston Churchill’s mind, his military accomplishments helped him transform into a capable leader. As a child, his parents were often too busy for him, so he would remake historical battles with his 1,500 toy soldiers (Vander Hook 23). Churchill’s father found him playing with the perfectly placed pieces and realized his son’s interest in the military (Vander Hook

Strong leadership is called upon most during a crisis.” Churchill began working with Joseph Stalin, head of the Soviet Union, and convinced Franklin Roosevelt to do the same (Vander Hook 77). At the Yalta conference in 1945, Churchill told FDR that any government in Poland was better than a Soviet puppet government (Kimball). He later asked FDR to confront Stalin about the situation (Kimball).
“Churchill had immense determination, exuding passion as well as purpose… Passion is infectious; if a leader has passion and shows determination, so will those who follow him,” Longstaffe also says in her article. Churchill’s greatest attribute was that he approached everything in his life with courage, even his death (Vander Hook 90).
Against all odds, the little boy who struggled in school transformed into the strong-willed leader that Great Britain needed to win World War II. Winston Churchill saved potentially the whole world from the hands of Adolf Hitler. His brilliant mind, military experience, and leadership skills were the solution to the havoc caused by Germany in World War
By telling the British population the facts about the war then following it with strong words of hope, Churchill develops a relationship of trust with the citizens. Saying “brilliant youth-who will have the glory of saving their native land, their island home, and all they love from the most deadly of all attacks”, builds pride in the people and will make them want to fight for the greater good, which in turn, will help drive Britain’s agenda of winning the war. Throughout
Even before the climactic World War II, Churchill’s mental war starts with the Indian Independence movement. Churchill was brusque about his opinion on the movement, knowingly showing his opposition to the public. “To Churchill, all Indians were the pedestal for a throne. He would have died to keep England free, but was against those who wanted India free.(Tondon, n.d.)” With this ornery still in the mind of the public and government officials, Churchill’s 1940 election was met with opposition. In Churchill and Orwell, “Peter Eckersley, a Tory MP, predicted that “Winston won’t last five months.”(Ricks, pg. 91)” The general public were critical of such a disposition leading the United Kingdom during a time struggle. Even with the public’s pessimistic prospect of him, Churchill’s resilience will become a favorable trait to exhibit in this psychological war.
The situation was extremely urgent. Winston Churchill had to keep his attitude positive or else he would not have gotten his country ready. He needed to convince everyone that they needed to fight at that moment and fight hard. Winston knew that Britain needed to win or else all would fail.
help lead Britain to victory. On the other hand, Hitler was also a very strong leader was
Mark of Athena is Rick Riordan's 8th book about Greek and Roman demigods living in the modern world. One may think that after seven books on demigods and 10 children's books Riordan would have run out of material. But that couldn't be less true! Mark of Athena is filled with fascinating mythology, a bold sense of adventure, and intriguing love stories all tinged with Riordan's signature demigod humor.
A man with dreams is as determined as a child who wants a puppy. They will both do whatever they can to achieve their goal. Winston Churchill, an author, journalist, and two term Prime Minister, helped his country during World War I and II and had many ideas that were not supported while he had government jobs. After analyzing several online biographies, it is clear that Winston Churchill achieved his big dreams of being like his father.
Winston Churchill was a extremely influential man with amazing speaking skills that helped him push parliament to act against Hitler instead of following a policy of appeasement. The speeches he gave to parliament also won him the position of Prime Minister in 1940. Churchill was also experienced in the military, which gave him a higher understanding of war tactics and statistics. These skills helped him better understand Hitler's war tactics and defend Britain against his unending assault on London. He joined the military in 1893 after 2 failed attempts at the entrance exam for the military, he was finally accepted to the British Army Cavalry division on his 3 attempt. After a short time in the military with time served in India and Sudan he became a member of parliament (“The Young Churchill”). He was then elected to the prime minister's cabinet as president of the board of trade. He then did many different jobs in parliament until World War II, when he fought against the appeasement of Hitler and was eventually elected to Prime Minister in 1940. When the United States joined the war in 1941 he worked closely with President Roosevelt to take back countries occupied by Germany. Together, along with the help of Russia they succeeded in taking back Europe and defeating Hitler in 1945 (“Winston Churchill”). With all of his accomplishes and skills it is easy to see how Winston Churchill was a great man and a member of the “Greatest
Soaked in sweat, I ran to the library to get a book on a historical leader before they were all gone. I would like to think I found a great leader, but I think one found me. As I was reading a book on great leaders of World War II, I initially focused on American leaders, but Sir Winston S. Churchill seemed fit my exact requirements. Sir Winston S. Churchill was a Visionary and Ethical Leader. In the following pages, I will explain how Winston was a visionary leader and how he used Inspirational Motivation and global diversity to gain advantage during World War II. I will also explain how he critically thought through a gut-wrenching decision by using Dr. Toner’s three Ps in the
Even after all of the slip-ups and hesitations along the way here we stand looking at one of the greatest world leaders of all time today the iconic, almost heroic, Winston Churchill. As a child Mr. Churchill leads a normal life with his father and caretakers he becomes old enough to join the military and does so almost immediately so that he can obtain acknowledgement and respect from his very own father, but he fails the test to get into the Royal Military Academy thrice before acquiring his spot in the aforementioned academy. Before joining, the Military Academy Churchill was a poor performing student in grade school, which caused him to be denied entry to the University. Shortly after he graduates form the Royal Military Academy Churchill
His life is an example of his spirit, overcoming the difficulties with which he was presented, and making himself stronger as a result of it. Churchill was a more than just a great speaker though; he was a great man and a great leader as well. He took over as Prime Minister of Britain during one of the most trying times ever to come upon the country, and led his country to eventual victory over their adversaries. The analysis of his speech allows one to come closer to understanding the true rhetorical genius of the man known as Churchill. In particular,
The year was 1940; the world’s second great World War was in full swing, with Britain and Germany at the forefront. The fall of Britain’s closest ally, France, stunned the British Empire and threw it into disarray. Through the chaos, Winston Churchill emerged. Churchill would be an inspiring leader who was able to rally the entire nation in times of hardship. Through his leadership, the “British Bulldog” would face the Axis powers and come out victorious, as well as become a public hero for the British people. Yet, immediately after the war, Churchill did not return to the prime minister seat because of a shocking defeat in his re-election, despite his immense reputation he gained from the war. Though lauded by the British population for his prowess as a wartime leader, Churchill’s conservative politics were out of touch with a population ready for post-war relief and led to his defeat in the 1945 election.
Winston Churchill had an incredible background, which had earned him the respect of the people and the influence as the second most powerful individual in the United Kingdom. Churchill enrolled into a Military college when he was of age, and participated in many conflicts surrounding the areas of Cuba, India and Sudan. In 1908, Churchill became a politician. During his time as a member of parliament, he began the movement to support the labor class of the British, introducing the ideas of minimum wage, insurance for the unemployed and most importantly the People’s Budget, which taxed the rich to support the social departments. These achievements within the military and in the parliament supported his ethos when regarding the people.
Churchill’s actions represent how he was a man that cared about others, wanted world peace, and
Winston Churchill symbolized Britain during World War II. His image, and that of the British people as a whole, was one of defiance in the face of overwhelming adversity. His galvanizing and courageous leadership as Prime Minister of Britain during World War II was the catalyst for the stubborn resistance of the British and the ultimate victory of the Allied forces over Hitler. His speeches stirred the masses and mobilized the British. When everything continued to go wrong, when things could seemingly get no worse, he was there to encourage and give support to the Allied armies. With his inspiring speeches, he motivated the nation of Great
Oftentimes, the best leaders are those who are willing to step up and face the daunting tasks that no one else will. As Prime Minister of England during World War II, Winston Churchill’s leadership left a permanent mark upon history. Many believe that without him, the Allies would have lost the war. In the words of John C. Maxwell, “Leaders become great not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.” Churchill prided himself in having courage in all things and possessed the unique ability to provide others with courage also. He led the British empire through battle after battle tirelessly, saying, “Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.” To him, there was “no use saying ‘we are doing our best.’ You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary.” Although it was almost certain that Britain would lose World War II, Churchill provided the willpower needed to stand against Germany and engendered a motivated and hardworking government, as well as an inspired nation.
